WALKS

Within easy reach of us there are various different types of walk on offer, ranging from a short riverside stroll, just a few minutes from our gates, to a long-distance trek along the Suffolk coast.

In 2009 Colin and May walked the full length of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Path, photos of which can be seen on May’s website www.fiftymileswithmydad.com.

We are keen walkers who know most paths in this part of Suffolk.  If you are staying with us we can happily suggest a walk to suit you, and lend you the right map.

Lovely walks of different length along the Deben can be enjoyed without getting into a car.  Alternatively, within a few minutes’ drive are the starting-points for numerous circular walks in unspoilt countryside, in Rendlesham and Tunstall forests,  and on paths including stretches along the coast or one of the local rivers and creeks.  Several of these walks are through nature reserves or are excellent for bird-watching: see Nature.

For many years we have celebrated our wedding anniversary in July with an early evening pub walk including a meal afterwards.  There are many good pub walks in this area.   The ones around Orford, Ramsholt and Snape are particularly unspoilt.

We have also enjoyed catching the branch line train from Melton station, getting off at Wickham Market (which in fact is  in Campsea Ashe, the next stop in the direction of Lowestoft), and walking back across country.  This takes about a couple of hours.  Click here for National Express East Anglia time-tables.

If you find it convenient to keep walking along the coast or riverside, and take a taxi back, the local taxi firm M&R Cars can be contacted on 01394 386661.  They are based at the railway station in Woodbridge, which is beside the river, and this is therefore an easy way of returning to us if you set off from us down the river on foot.
